If you’re a fan of kiteboarding then keep an eye out for the The Estera Little Grand Kiteboarding Race 2019. This race is a multi-disciplinary team challenge covering a 90 mile course running east to west from Little Cayman to Grand Cayman held over the course of a day sometime between 18th and 25th February 2019.
If the planning sounds capricious, that’s because it is. The event is entirely weather dependent so the date of the race will be finalised within a week of the actual event.
But don’t be fooled, the date is the only mercurial trait to this event. Known locally to be the toughest kiteboarding race in the Caribbean (and possibly the world) riders and teams need 100% focus and dedication as they cover distances of over 120 miles taking into account tacking, variable open ocean conditions, and changeable wind characteristics.
Teams are classified by kiteboard style and the race is open to all categories. And with each Team raising funds through sponsorship for the Cayman Islands Cancer Society the event promises to be rewardingly tough.
