5 ways to show you care about the community

In this crazy time of the dreaded Coronavirus, quarantine and global lock-downs, it’s easy to feel helpless and unhelpful. So it’s no surprise that doing something proactive through the uncertainty can be a lifesaver for both you and your community.

As normal life becomes more and more fragmented, it’s never been more important to stay connected to family, friends and those you care about. Remember, even though we have to keep apart and do things from a safe social distance, there’s a community that you’ve helped shape that still needs you. Here are some of the ways you can support Cayman’s best bars, restaurants and tours through times of crisis. Your spiritual self and the local community will thank you.

Rum Point, Grand Cayman

1. Reschedule don’t cancel

Coronavirus may have ruined spring break and postponed our much-needed vacays, but don’t throw all your #travelgoals out the window just yet. If you booked an awesome adventure with one of our Beach-approved tour operators, how about rescheduling your trip for another date? When, let’s be honest, we’ll all need it a lot more!

And locals, keep a look out for on-island companies that are still open—outdoor activities can be a safe and fun environment for the whole family, and many will be offering resident discounts.

Bluestone Lane, Grand Cayman

2. Order take-out or delivery

Tired of cooking? Order something to eat at home while practicing social distancing and please leave a tip. For many restaurant owners, cooks and servers this is a new normal and their only income source for a while. Check out our advice for leaving gratuities in the Cayman Islands. For all the current offerings from your favourite restaurants, head here.

No.11 Spa, Grand Cayman

3. Buy gift certificates

If you’re dreaming of regular life, give your future self a gift to spend at your favourite shop or spa and support these small local businesses while their physical doors are closed.

While celebrations may be postponed, you can still surprise someone with a No.11 Spa virtual gift card. Or send a healthy gift basket from Island Naturals, a vitamin boost from Jessie’s Juice Bar or a much needed double rizzie and something tasty to eat from Bluestone Cafe, all delivered directly to your work wife or bff’s door. Everyone could use a treat right now.

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman

4. Keep moving

Quarantine life can get dull, make sure you’re getting plenty of Vitamin Sea by taking your exercise at a safe social distance on one of these amazing beaches and check to see if your local fitness studios are offering online classes. We’re following Bliss Yoga online classes which are free to members (get in on it here) and Balance Cayman Facebook at-home workouts.

Crazy Crab Charters, Grand Cayman

5. stay social

Show you care by following and engaging with your favourite restaurant, bar, hotel and brands on social. Hit follow. Bookmark their posts. Write a review. This is a great, free way to show your support for the companies you love and will help you and others see what’s hot and where to visit when we can all travel again.
